AARP Update

Those O.D.B.'s at AARP have pulled a bait and switch on me. Loyal readers will know that the organization for the elderly recently sent me an invitation to join---a FULL SEVEN MONTHS before my 50th birthday. Click here if you missed my cheery missive about that momentous event. I was all psyched for the discount, so I sent the $16 check in right away.

Today, an envelope from AARP arrived in the mail. I was immediately suspicious because of how thin it was. That's the letter up there. It's tiny because I can barely work a scanner or anything technical, a true sign of advancing age (other indications include my love of Masterpiece Theater and Tony Bennet). Turns out AARP gave me some lame "associate" membership that includes the AARP magazine but not the discount! Because I'm not 50 yet! That's so totally come here go away. Age discrimination!

  1. My husband got his AARP invitation in the mail around the day you posted about getting yours. He's not even out of the coveted 18- to 34-year-old demographic yet.

  3. I got one, too! Plus an NRA membership card, but that was because my husband bought a jacket from Beretta and I, because I am good at things like the post office, was targeted, as it were. I have taken neither organization up on their offers. How old do we have to be for a bus pass?
