yesterday's New York Times article chronicling women who shoot themselves up with pregnancy hormone to lose weight. I was going to write about it, but then my new favorite blog writer at Two Whole Cakes beat me to the punch with
this brilliant post. Her conclusion is perfect.
It's probably going to sound a wee bit hypocritical coming from me since I'm in the process of losing weight myself, BUT... the entire culture of dieting is so much of "doing the same thing in the same way and expecting different results".
ReplyDeleteExpecting people to comform to a singular physical and mental character; has that worked to create a better society so far?
Losing weight is all about self control; has that worked for mental health and weight loss so far?
It's all about burning more calories than you take in; has that worked for everyone so far?
Idealising low body weight and demonizing large sizes; has that made skinny people consistently healthier and big people unhealthier so far?
